All that changed for him at the age of fifteen, when his parents started a camp to help young people lose weight--Weight Watcher’s Camps. He was able to learn the difference that thirty pounds would make to help him become more content with himself and more confident with his peers. Camp Pocono Trails the Pennsylvania camp was featured on MTV’s True Life: Fat Camp in February 2008 and runs continuously on the network. In this 88 minute documentary, which has gained somewhat of a cult following, the cameras followed numerous campers through the rigorous but fulfilling activities they endured at Sparber’s Camp, but helped to show the mental and physical victory the campers achieved along the way. Sparber’s camps have been quoted in widely read sources such as the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, The Orlando Sentinel, Family Circle, Newsday, Teen Magazine and Web MD. New Image Camps enrolled over 1000 campers, summer 2006 and boasts pounds lost total at 13,000.

He first became a minister at Wheaton Church of Christ in Remus, Michigan before preaching in Dewitt, Michigan. Henry and his wife of almost forty years, Lois, have been involved in the care of children all their married lives. They have adopted four children, been involved in foster care for thirteen years and support Central Michigan Pregnancy Services in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Through their passion for young people, involvement in a Christian Camp was a fore-drawn conclusion. Henry has served for over thirty years at Rock Lake. This adventure started as a 4th-5th grade camp counselor. Eventually, he was asked to take over the camp as the Dean. After ten years in this capacity, the camp director job became available. Henry felt led to serve in this capacity full-time and has been doing so ever since. As well as Director of the camp, he has served on the Program Committee, Capital Fund Committee and as Trustee. Henry’s favorite thing about camp is being present when young people learn spiritual truths, commit themselves to Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives, and are immersed in the lake. You shot the bow and arrow, learned to make fire, played ball, swam, met the perfect girl at the waterfront after the social and then you got decapitated by the camp tranny. You know wistful memories. Death by DVD goes to camp this week, Sleepaway Camp that is. What? Did you expect that todays date and that intro led into some other series of slasher films based at a summer camp? We actually wanted to talk about a series of films that had some sort of...importance to the American lexicon, not a series whose main cultural influence was introducing hockey to middle America. The kids should all be off to camp in the next few weeks, so we decided to prepare them for the worst (or the best if your name starts with Jeffery and ends with a Cambodian teens head in your fridge). Well be visiting Camp Arrowak as well as the other camps that Angela Baker was a camper/consoler. Well be doing Sleepaway Camp 1-The Return as well as discussing the legendarily lost Sleepaway Camp: Survivor and the yet to be sequels Sleepaway Camp: Berserk and Sleepaway Camp: Reunion 3D. Speaking out for the first time since he was recruited at 19 years old, Joe describes a religious retreat he was consigned to for sloppy workmanship as a slave camp. A senior member of the church explains that such camps are important opportunities for reflection, rehabilitation and redemption. Yet ex-members say that not only is the workload poorly compensated, but the system of punishment is ridiculous and extreme. Speaking exclusively, one early member explains how members were treated abominably by the now-deceased founder of the church, L. Ron Hubbard. She claims that during Hubbards self-imposed exile on the high seas, people were thrown overboard, hands bound and feet bound and blindfolded, when they broke the rules. All eventually recovered, yet its the increasing frequency of shocking allegations like this, which is bringing increasing pressure on the US and Australian authorities to question Scientologys legal status.
